Brief introduction to Mod subculture
The term ‘Mod’ basically means modern and was a subculture through the 1950’s to the 1960’s. The Mod subculture began in London and the key elements of the culture include: fashion often suits, pop music including African American soul, Jamaican Ska and British beat music. The sub culture would frequently be found influenced by amphetamines in clubs and parties. A common recognizable trait was Italian motor scooters or as we know them now as mopeds. When media began taking off it would often use the term Mod as a way to describe what was popular or fashionable. There was a mod revival in the United Kingdom in the late 1970’s which created a further revival in North America in the early 1980’s mainly in southern California. An example of mod culture is shown in this is England ’86
How is Mod culture represented in "This is England" the film and/or TV series. Are Woody and his gang positively, sympathetically, humourously, ironically or.....represented?
ReplyDeleteAlso how does Shane Meadows strongly communicate the Ska genre/lifestyle in his film and/or TV series. Think about the title sequence in the feature film "This is England".
