The Skanx - Money grabber
Back ground information about the skanx, the Skanx are a 10-piece band from South-east London. Their music combines classic Ska with influences from funk, jazz and dub. They play a mix of well-known and obscure cover versions as well as their own unique material. The band features vocalists Lori and Wayne, plus the 4-piece Skanky Horns.
The track my group will be creating the video for is a tack called ‘Money Grabber’ which is very ska and soul influenced. I find this particular song very upbeat and jolly, it connotes ideas of happiness and bliss. However when listening to the lyrics it is about a women trying to get any bit of money she can by any means. The song is about greed and lust for money. Where put into context would be described as a gold digger stealing money from men along with their pride.
Ska is a form of music which originates in Jamaica in the 1950’s it began as a fusion of reggae and rock steady. Ska combined calypso American jazz with rhythm and blues. Ska music was the most popular music in Jamaica in the 1960’s and spread to England where it was made popular by the mod generation and was later on adapted into skinhead culture or punk cultures. Ska music most recently was made popular by the band the madness. Who were dominating the music industry in 1980 to 1986 they sung about the current matters affecting them and issues that the developing England was faced with.

ReplyDeleteCapital letter for Madness...be care with your use of capital letters and punctuation..the sentence doesn't make sense. You suggest Madness' music reflected contemporary British concerns of the 1980's. Could you explain what these concerns were and how Madness communicated them. This will strengthen your mark.
